Regional Government under Review Town Hall Meeting 7-9pm Monday April 8

Dear Community Members,

Regional Governance is under review – how will this impact you and your services?

The Province of Ontario is currently examining the governance, decision-making, and service delivery functions of eight regional municipalities and their lower-tier municipalities. This includes the Region of Peel (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon). The Ministry has asked for each municipality to provide their feedback on what works, and what doesn’t with regional government, as well as ways to improve regional government to better serve their residents. Follow the link for further information on Regional Government Review.

Since 1974, the Region of Peel has served the residents of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon, currently totaling 1.4 million people. The Region is governed by a Regional Chair and 24 members of Council (3 Mayors and 21 Councillors) from the cities and town mentioned above. The Region of Peel has provided a Financial Impact Analysis, this can be viewed by following the link Regional Government on their website.

On March 27th, the City of Mississauga Council adopted a Motion, approving in principle that Mississauga become independent of the Region of Peel as an alternative to Regional Governance or Amalgamation. A Corporate Report and Executive Summary were presented to Council, all documents may be reviewed on the City website by clicking Regional Government Review. The City would like to hear from you before making their final position to the province.

Ward One Councillor, Stephen Dasko, has provided additional information through his website, follow the link ‘Open letter to residents‘.

How to participate:
